This is a perfect example of why you need to regularly change your timing belts at the required service intervals. Backing plate of the tensioner broke apart, and chewed up the belt, causing it to jump timing by a couple teeth.

Remember:

– 1.8turbo motors require timing belt service every 115,000km
– TDI’s every 150,000km. Always good rule of thumb to have it inspected, and if you cannot remember when it was done, and records are not available change it.

Our timing belt services start at $900 tax included, that includes all parts: belt, rollers, water pump, tensioner, and labour. Call us if you have any questions.

“A 900 dollar service is always cheaper then a new motor.”
